GEORGE ΤΑΚΕΙ’s

THEY CALLED US ENEMY.

graphic memoir by actor and activist George Takei, best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek. The book, co-written with Justin Eisinger and Steven Scott and illustrated by Harmony Becker, tells the story of Takei’s childhood experience in Japanese American internment camps during World War II. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government forcibly relocated Japanese Americans, including Takei and his family, to internment camps. The memoir explores Takei’s family’s resilience, the injustices they faced, and the lasting impact of this dark chapter in American history. It also draws parallels to modern issues of discrimination and immigration, making it a powerful and timely story about identity, justice, and activism.
